We know that our tech industries are busy optimizing and innovating new technologies, similarly, they are changing our wired lifestyle to wireless. Wireless technologies are taking over and most of the devices and accessories that are now in the markets have wireless connectivity. From speakers to headphones from keyboards to moues everything is now connected wirelessly, similarly, our smartphones cannot live without wireless connectivity. To connect our devices like laptops, tablets or smartphones with the wireless accessories or with each other, they all are connected with each other through Bluetooth. Thanks to Bluetooth we are safe from the fuss of wires which clears a lot of space on our desks. Bluetooth requires a limited area in which it stays connected between our devices. Windows 10 has provided us with the feature to connect our wireless accessories and smart devices with our laptop/Pc, all you need to have is a Bluetooth connectivity in your laptop or Pc. So, in this article, I will guide you on how to turn on & use Bluetooth in Windows 10.

Before starting a stepwise guide, there are some requirements that you should preserve while using your devices wirelessly. These requirements are listed below.

  • You should be running Windows 10 on your system
  • You should have Bluetooth connectivity in your system
  • You should have a wireless accessory that has a Bluetooth working
  • You Bluetooth accessory’s battery must be charged
  • Your smartphone Bluetooth should be discoverable for sending and receiving files.

Now let’s start with the stepwise guide.

Step 1: Open Bluetooth from settings

Open up Settings from your Start Menu as shown above, or press (Windows key + I key) to open Settings.

After Settings windows appear, click on the Devices options as shown above.

Now click on the Bluetooth option in the Devices Menu pane on the left side of the screen as shown above.

Step 2: Searching for Bluetooth devices.

After you’re in Bluetooth options, you can turn on the Bluetooth toggle button under the Manage Bluetooth devices as shown above. This will start searching for Bluetooth devices to connect with.

After turning on your Bluetooth it will search for all the devices and list them below as shown above.  Now select the desired device you want to connect with.

Step 3: Pairing with Devices

After selecting the desired device a Pair button will appear as shown above. Click on the Pair button to proceed to pair.

If you are connecting with your wireless speaker or wireless headphone the devices will be processed and will be connected without asking for a pairing passcode as shown above. Wait till the process is completed.

If you are pairing with your smartphone or any other smart device, the paring will ask to compare the passcodes as shown above. First, you have to click on the Yes button from your laptop, then you have to turn to your smartphone which will ask you to pair with your laptop using the passcode, click yes to connect.

Note: So we know now that if you’re paring accessories with a laptop then it will not request to match passcodes but if you’re paring smart devices it will ask for passcodes.

Step 4: Using Bluetooth Devices

You can send and receive files from your laptop/Pc using Bluetooth.

Now that you are connected with your smart device, click on the Send or receive files via Bluetooth as highlighted above

Step 5: Sending files

To send files on your smart device, make sure your device is connected with your smartphone, now click on the Send files option as shown above.

Now select the smart device that you’re connected with and click on Next button as shown above.

Click on the Browse button as shown above to select the file you want to send.

After selecting a file click on the Open button as shown above.

Now click on the Next button to proceed.

Now accept the file from your smart device to start the sending process as shown above.

After sending process is complete, click on the Finish button as shown above.

Step 6: Receiving a File

To receive a file from your smart device to your laptop/PC, click on the Receive files option as shown above.

For receiving files, you have to send files from your smart devices when the screen shown above appears.

Select your laptop/pc from your smart device, the receiving process will start concurrently as shown above.

After Receiving process is completed, you can Browse the folder where you want to save the received file or you can leave it as a default path and press the Finish button to close the dialog box.
