If you’re getting started with the development in Python then you should know that Python is an Open Source programming language available for free to download, use and distribute. Python is an object-oriented language just like Perl, Ruby, and Java. Most people choose Python because its syntax is comparatively easier than other programming languages out there. So if you’re also choosing to develop an application in Python then you can’t just use Python’s interpreter but a proper development platform in which you can develop your application with ease. In order to do that JetBrains created a development environment called PyCharm which is a leading Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for developing application productively in python. PyCharm can also be used to develop the application of Django, Flask and pyramid. PyCharm also supports HTML (also HTML5), CSS, JavaScript, and XML languages, not only these but also supports other languages can be added in PyCharm with the help of plugins.

So, in this article, I will walk you through on how to Install Python and PyCharm in Window 10 but before we start with the guide there are some requirements that you should preserve.

  • Your PC should have a minimum of 4 GB RAM (8 GB recommended).
  • Your PC should have a minimum of 1.5 GB hard disk space available plus at least 1 GB for caches.
  • Your PC should have 1024×768 minimum screen resolution.

Now let’s start with the stepwise guide.

Python Installation in Windows 10

Download Python

Search Python

Open up a browser and Google search for “Python”. Simply click on the first link from the search list as shown above.

After the Python website opens up, hover your mouse pointer on the Downloads Tab, which will dropdown its Menu as shown above. Form the menu click on the latest version of Python button under Download for Windows as highlighted above.

After the download is complete, simply click on the downloaded file if you are using Google Chrome as shown above, or you can open up Downloads folder to locate the file to open up the Python setup.

After clicking on the downloaded Python file, its setup wizard window will launch up as shown above.

  1. Make sure that you have checkmark both the checkboxes as highlighted above.
  2. Now click on the Install Now option to proceed installation setup as highlighted above.
User Control Access

Just click on the Yes button if you receive a warning message from the User Account Control as shown above.

Python Installation Progress

This will start the Python installation on your Windows 10 as shown above. Now, wait till the installation process is complete.

After you setup is successfully completed, click on the Close button as highlighted above.

PyCharm Installation in Windows 10:

Download PyCharm

Search PyCharm

Open up a browser and Google search for “PyCharm”. Simply click on the first link from the search list as shown above.

From the PyCharm Home page click on the Download Now button to go to the Downloads page as shown above.

Now once you are in the Download page, click on the Download button that is under the Community option as shown above. This will start downloading the PyCharm setup file.

Download Warning Message

If you’re using Chrome and faced a warning message as shown above, simply click on the Keep button to start the download.

After the download is complete, simply click on the downloaded file if you are using Google Chrome, or you can open up Downloads folder to locate the file to open up the PyCharm setup.

User Account Control

Just click on the Yes button if you receive a warning message from the User Account Control as shown above.

Setup Welcome Phase

After the PyCharm Setup window launch up, click on the Next > button on the Welcome phase as shown above.

Choose Install Location Phase

In the Choose Install Location phase, let the Destination Folder to be the default, simply click on the Next > button to Proceed.

Installation Option Phase

In the Installation Options process:

  1. You can select either of the option to create a Desktop shortcut or you can leave it as default.
  2. You can checkmark the “Add launchers dir to the PATH” if you know what you’re doing, or leave it as default.

Now simply click on the Next > button to proceed.

Choose Start Menu Folder phase

In the Choose Start Menu Folder phase, let the default option to be selected as JetBrains as highlighted above. Now click on the Install button to proceed.

In the Installation phase, wait until the installation process of PyCharm is completed as shown above.

After the successful installation process, the next phase will show you that PyCharm has been successfully installed on your computer as shown above. Make sure to checkmark the “Run PyCharm Community Edition” checkbox to launch it automatically after hitting the Finish button as highlighted above. Now simply click on the Finish button to close the setup wizard.

After closing the setup wizard, the PyCharm will launch up but first, it will complete installation by asking you to set up some of the important configurations for your convenience.

Import settings phase

In the Import PyCharm settings phase, select the “Do not import settings” and click OK as shown above.

Privacy Policy Phase

In the Privacy Policy phase, checkmark the confirmation checkbox of user Agreement as highlighted above. Now click the Continue button to proceed.

Data Sharing Phase

In the Data Sharing phase click on the Don’t send button to proceed as highlighted above.

PyCharm Customization Phase

In the Customize PyCharm phase, it is recommended to set the settings as default, in order to do that click on the Skip Remaining and Set Defaults button as highlighted above.

PyCharm IDE

After the Customization phase is complete, you will see the main Window of PyCharm IDE, from where you can start creating your New Project in Python and develop amazing applications.
