The new Android 9.0 Pie introduces Artificial Intelligence, digital Wellbeing and has made the new update more simplified and optimized for the new smarter and faster experience, that adapts and learn according to how you use your phone. This latest version of Android is now available on the Google Pixels variants and other new models of brands like Xiaomi, Nokia, HTC and other brands will be receiving the update soon. In this article, we will cover all the important new features and changes that Android has introduced in Android 9.0 Pie.
Let’s first check out the Major Changes in Android Pie and how can you use them.

What’s New:

The new Android Software upgrade to 9.0 Pie brings several new features which are listed in the above image under What’s New. These features will be subdivided to show you each and every aspect of its change.

System Navigation, Settings, and Notifications:

Gesture Navigation:

The Gesture Navigation is not enabled as a default when you upgrade your phone to Android Pie as shown above.






To enable the Gesture Navigation:
1. From app drawer tap on the Settings icon,
2. Then from settings scroll all the way down,
3. Then tap on the System option,
4. From System, tap on the Gestures option,
5. Now From Gestures tap on the “Swipe up on Home button”
6. From Swipe up on Home button turn on the toggle button to enable new system navigation.
After enabling the “Swipe up on Home button” option, you can see that the default navigation buttons have now been changed to a single cylindrical or rather a pill-shaped Home button.

System Navigation (Switch and Clear Apps):

Hold and swipe the Home button to see the most recent app so you can switch between them as shown above. You can either scroll the Home button to and fro which will enable a slider to switch between the apps or you can simply slide through the apps itself.

The new way to clear the most recent app is now by swiping up the app rather than swiping it sideways as used to clear apps in previous Android versions.

Settings Menu:

The Settings Menu has been more simplified and optimized for the user-friendly experience. Moreover, it has made its interface livelier by revamping the Setting Icons as highlighted above.


The Notifications has now more Slice/Card view to it with its corners rounded off which provides a floating view to it. Swipe the notification left or right to view the option of its settings in which you can block the incoming notification of the particular app or of its timer in which you can snooze the app notification as shown below.

Powered By Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Adaptive and Optimized Battery:

The adaptive battery prioritizes the battery that is consumed by the application you use the most and limits the battery for the applications that you don’t use the most in order to extend the battery life.






The adaptive battery is enabled by default, just in case you want to know from where to enable or disable it or to see which app are in the restricted list.
1. From Settings tap on Battery option.
2. In Battery settings, tap on Adaptive Battery option.
3. In Adaptive Battery, you can enable or disable the toggle button of Use Adaptive Battery
4. You can check the apps that are enabled for Background activity manager under Restricted App list.

Adaptive and optimized brightness:

The Adaptive brightness learns how you change the brightness level based upon the environment and learns to auto adjust for you. Not only that it auto adjust it for you it also learns the manual adjustments you make in a particular environment and then adjust it accordingly the next time you are in such environment.






To enable Adaptive Brightness:
1. From Settings, tap on Display settings
2. In Display settings tap on Adaptive brightness option
3. From Adaptive Brightness, enable the toggle button.

Predictive Application Actions

App Actions:

1: Most Used Apps

When you Swipe up the Home button you enter the Overview menu and in the overview menu, you can see the apps as highlighted above that Android predicts that you use the most. From these listed apps you can easily choose from it rather than bypassing the overview menu to enter the app drawer.

2: Suggested App Actions

In the App drawer, below suggested apps, the Android showcase a one or two tabs of apps actions, in which it predicts the other app actions like a tab to open up the message thread of a person you text the most or tab of a person you call the most.
